i read about this in the book..
the one where wall-mart is implemeting this sort of technology, i find its idealogy rather interesting…

in fact someone62546, its good that u refers to the Wal-Mart case..RFID applications found to be implemented in various area involving Supply Chain, check out the book ( pg 319-322)…the ones used in Hospitals are really being put into good use… more on RFID next week lecture…!

I think having RFID in the near future is a really good deal as people can cut down on man power. But that’ll also cost a bad side due to loss of job applicants as profounded cashiers. But after all techonology is our future and I really am looking forward to this system in Malaysia any time soon! If there is any updates about this shopping convenience do keep an update for me! Thanks!

hey…walmart..i read it from the book too indeed..and it’s suprising for me tat it actually appeared in the other video..other than the 2 miss saleena gave us..after this chapter, now only i noe tat wat is this RFID thingy all about..RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identity..it is actually something tat consists a tiny silicon computer chip and an antenna..when the products r transferred out of the factory,or the warehouse, specific information about the product transferred will be sent and saved into the computer..after watching the video,im like..”wow”..now i noe tat im so outdated about things..wat’s more is tat, when the product is lost or anything like tat, they can be traced AROUND THE WORLD!!!take tat,world..and of coz,not forgetting, this RFID also significantly increases the efficiency of the prodcut transfer..oh well..glad tat things r growing so fast..and im looking forward for it to happen in malaysia asap..

RFID is good because it improves the efficiency of inventory tracking and management in enterprise supply chain management.
But if this continues, companies will reduce manpower due to the replacement of manpower by RFID and lots of people will lose their job and only the smarter ones will have the jobs. So,we will have to study hard if you want a job in the near future!

  6.   chenmeiyap Says:

In my opinion, RFID holds a very promising bright future..It helps manufacturers and retailers to save cost and time..Both of these two factors plays a very important role as money = time and time = money..A large number of blue collar employees will not be needed anymore as they are bieng replaced by RFID..
However, there is a dark side of RFID which is, many people will be jobless and eventually, leading the economy of a country to a downfall..

  7.   mjphon Says:

chen mei..i dun understand y would the blue collar workers will be replaced by RFID??when blue collar jobs r those cleaners for the country who picks up the trash..moreover,i dun think tat over-unemployment would bring down the country though..for example, lets talk about msia..we hv plenty of jobs availabled in msia..those ppl who r not needed in their previous company can take up the empty slots in other companies..then,the employees will get lower salary..then as the companies pay lower salaries, the money can be invested into other things for further extension..oh well..lazy write lah..i hope u will continue debating yeah chen mei??

    ur classmate,
    mjphon

-dun let the debate end jz like tat..type something-

  8.   chenmeiyap Says:

    Mjphon..
It is because most blue collar job are done by RFID..
For example, when goods arrived, RFID readers will read the information..There is no need to have anyone there to count whether the amount of stock arrived is the same with the amount ordered..And data are immediately transfer to the merchandise management system..(no humans are needed)
RFID tags can indicate where each product belong..This enables the merchandise to be transported to the intended destination. For example, hanger goods sorter..(no humans are needed again)
Blue collar jobs does not only involved those cleaners who help to clean the road..It also involved jobs that require the use of manual skills..
Ok..Try to imagine..If there is over unemployment in a country, people will start to steal for food because they have no money..Why? Easy – Because they are jobless..Later, everyone will start to kill for food..What would investors from other country think off this country? Will they still want to come and invest here? NO..Not at all..Would you?
Are you sure that graduate will take on a lower income job..How bout you?

  9.   mjphon Says:

    Chen Mei,
no..i totally disagree with ur statements though..ok,the country will hv unemployment..but if every company uses the technology of RFID,their efficiency will increase..and bcoz of the line “time is money”,so eventually their income of the company will oso increase..after tat,the company will hv to pay more to the taxes to the government..so,lets say tat every company in this country uses this technology in the future, the country will hv more income on taxes..rite??the 1st good point is tat,the country will slowly be known as an established country..and the 2nd point is,as i said,if every company in this country uses the technology, the country will income more income by taxes..with tat money, the country can invest more into those infant companies..and as the number of the infant companies increase, there will hv more vacant jobs for those unemployed ppl..for example..u can look at japan..it is so technological advanced..i dun see the country killing for food,or steal for food??and yet the ppl around the globe is investing onto the LEADER IN TECHNOLOGY..

  10.   chenmeiyap Says:

Efficiency increase, income and payment for taxes also increase..Tats what you are trying to say rite..Ok..Agree with that..BUT..You got to know that effiency would not last for long..Why – Because, remember I mentioned people will start to fight and kill for food, it will obviously be with the employed people (these people still have cash and food). Effect – everyone will be poor and company will shut down leading to a waste of RFID..(A person has some money, he/she will be killed or robbed, anyone who own some money, they too wil be robbed or killed..Its like a ferry wheel which goes round and round repeating the same thing)..So..How to be known as an established country and where can the government generate their income from..(There is no change to bulid anything, no future)
Another thing..The country have more income on taxes if every company in this country uses RFID technology in the future..I doubt that though..You see..No one would like to pay for their individual tax..What more for a company, which they have to fork out a large sum of money just for paying tax..They will surely do whatever it takes to avoid from being taxed..Well they cant avoid from paying tax, its their duty, so what can they do? They will increase more social activities such as annual dinner, charity, donation and anything that enable them to reduce their taxes..
Thus, how can a country invest more into those infant companies..
Well you cant really compare Malaysia and Japan..Its different in every aspect..

  11.   ecommerce202 Says:

constructive argument going on here…what really happen to the rest? wakey wakeyy!

  12.   p0tenz Says:

huh ?? just drop by wif my opinion….btw…today only i know about RFID..i mean i noe the meaning today…radio frequency identification or RFID is cool…it can help us to save alot times…lets c…in malaysia…we dont really got RFID in our supermarket… tats y i hate to go supermarket…because everytime when we have chosen the items we want…we need to wait the counter to scan or watever then only let us pay the money…i feel its boring to wait…if malaysia has this RFID…i think more ppl will follow their parents to shopping when its onli Giant, Tesco…. etc etc….because as i noe…alot people dont like follow parents to those supermarket….

p/s : jing is the one

  13.   mjphon Says:

ms. yap chen mei,i think u dun understand wat am i talkin about..when most of the companies use RFID,the country will eventually be richer and richer due to the taxes paid by the rich companies..for those established companies,or rather those rich ones,i dun think they would hold back while paying taxes..for instance, look at YTL corp,Tan&Tan..those r big companies..in the long run,the more companies will be like those companies i’ve stated above..and when the companies expand,we wont hv to worry about unemployment..and on the other hand, the country will expand due to most of the companies expand rite??moreover,i dun think those big companies would go bankrupt by jz paying taxes..man..tat’s jz a hyperbole rite??tell me it is..we’ll hv to be optimistic and we shouldnt be so short sighted though..if u look at things so short sightedly, our country will nv go anywhere..

  14.   fallentangel Says:

Actually both chenmeiyap and mjphon have have their own points in the arguement. Basically I support you both.

    These points that I support:

(a)RFID significantly increases the efficiency of the product transfer.

It saves time and money with the use of RFID because companies can save time when importing or exporting products from the company because they do not have to count the volume of the product whether the products are the exact amount as intended. The company can save money by hiring few workers to do their work (fewer workers means fewer increment in salary, bonus and promotions) and the life span of RFID is very long means that it will not easily needed to replace or spoiled.

    (b) Unemployment increases

In the near future, RFID will replace manpower. A real life example will be the toll. RFID tags used for payment for toll on the highways will totaly replace workers because it is faster when making payment and do not have to queue to pay their toll in the near future.

(c)More people invest in the country
Investors like to invest in the country with high technology and this will improve the country’s reputation and also it’s economy.

Everything happens in the world will lead to both good and bad results. For the good results, we have to try to maintain it that way and we have to try to find ways to overcome the bad results. For this case, we have to start finding ways asap to prevent these bad results from becoming worst because it’s better to prevent it from happening than to cure it.

  15.   mushi Says:

chris who said i dont follow my parents to the supermarket..I guess RFID got its pros and cons. ermm such as RFID is good when it comes to short of hand due to limited workers and its saves alot of time and helps the economy in many ways. Its disadvantages are there are many jobless people who needs works and maybe they could take over RFID…Nah :P I still prefer RFID.

  16.   ahken Says:

HAHAHAH! That handsome guy there should study more about RFID technology before stealing any stuff again at any shopping malls in future. LOL!

well, the debate from phon and chenmei is awesome! im impressed ! :P both of you got your own points and opinions. Like i said in my blog, everything has their pros and cons, so it just depends on which point of view u are seeing at. At my view, i really feels RFID technology is god damn cool !~~ it really helps to save alot of time. So guys ..better make use of the technology and helps the world to make a better day! :D

  17.   shanghong89 Says:

I believe RFID can be implemented on almost everything.
The world will be a better place if RFID is placed on everybody. For example,if its placed on criminals it will be easier to locate them and preventing them from breaking the law again.Better still if applied on everyone kidnapping case will be impossible! and we wont lose the innocent sharlene that have not been found yet…
RFID can become the identification to everybody and people wont have trouble losing their id cards and underage people wont be able fake their identity to buy cigarettes and any other activities that only adults are able to do.
Maybe even pets and our personal belongings can be RFID =D

  19.   bloggerz Says:

RFID improves convenience and efficiency. With this technology, it helps save cost and time therefore increasing profit for every company that uses it. Although its true that in the future of RFID, less manpower would be needed, it in everyway benefits people who uses it.
